Project Paper Acknowledgement

Gimli (to a dying orc): “Tell me what happened and I will ease your passing”
-The Fellowship of the Ring: The Two Towers-

I would like to firstly thank my parents whose monetary assistance and understanding allowed me to maintain my lifestyle as a fulltime student without being distracted by the need to work for sustenance, nourishment and the odd night out or two, even if it was only for a while.

And when I eventually used up all their understanding; I was required to work like all the good people of Malaysia which brings me to the following people; my two bosses; NAN and SM at my workplace; the Malaysian Institute of XXXX. They took a gamble in hiring a then long-haired graduate student, and I repaid them by limiting my disappearance from the office to only a couple of times every month. In my own defence, my disappearance was truly academic in nature and purpose. Levity aside, the culture of academia and research that are instilled within the ranks of XXXX was what motivated me to finish my own research. My two workplace superiors truly deserve a mention with their patience and lenience. They should by now know that since I have now completed my studies, my future disappearance (should there be any) is not for any academic purposes at all.

Thirdly, due gratitude is owed by me to my patient and understanding (astute readers can spot a pattern emerging here) project paper supervisor; RN who tolerates my long disappearance and always makes time when I am good and ready to present what little I have come up for my research. Surely, no student has ever claimed to have a meeting with their supervisor at the local hospital.

Finally, I would like to thank my friend FA who was my ‘go-to’ person when I needed clarifications regarding the formalities of the paper writing. If she was annoyed by my incessant frantic phone calls in the middle of the night, she has succeeded in not making it seem obvious to me. This is all the more impressive when one considers the fact that she was also grappling with her own research submission at the same time and another smaller fact that she is, at the time that this acknowledgement is being written, in the midst of her wedding preparations. I would reward her helpfulness by naming her first-born son my own name, but for the fact that that is not how one rewards another person, as told by my more socially-aware friends.
